Awards

The Old Packet HouseTrafford & Hulme CAMRA is pleased to announce that for the 2020 Pub Of The Year is for the third year running The Old Packet House on the corner of Navigation Road & Manchester Road in Altrincham. One of the branch's oldest pubs dating back to the 1870s, The landlords Roger & Clare continues to deliver a shining example of all that is good about traditional pubs. A roaring fire in winter, great value pub grub and of course great beer saw it top the member's vote out of over 140 pubs selling real ale in the branch area.

Alex Price who took over in 2018 and who has maintained the high standards set by the previous owners at The Beer House, Chorlton has been rewarded with runner up spot for the second year.  This aptly named pub has two regular beers and up to five changing beers on hand pumps.  These are complimented with an extensive range of craft keg, bottled and canned beers, some local and some from around the world.

The Font was also named Cider Pub Of The Year 2020 for the sixth time in seven years - it's range of between 6 and 10 traditional and fruit flavoured ciders no doubt being the clincher for cider drinkers with  PI chorlton as runner up.

And having now been in place for over a year the "new" stewards at Flixton Conservative Club have proved that they know how to deliver quality ale as they were victorius in the Club Of The Year competition for the second year, making this the eighth consecutive win for this very special club.

On a dark winters night there is nothing better than a pub visit. On the 12th February The Salutation in Hulme was our destination as it was the date to present Ronan Clowes, the manager and his team with the Trafford & Hulme "Pub of the Season Winter 2020" award.

Here we can see Tom Watson, the supervisor receiving the award from George Elmslie the branch chairman.

Acquired by the Metropolitan University in 2011 and operated by Union since 2013 it has retained many of it’s original features through several tasteful refreshes. In 2019 it entered into a non-exclusive agreement with Bollington Brewery and its cask and keg ales available usually with one guest from elsewhere.

The menu features several vegan and vegetarian meals in addition to more traditional pub fare. Interestingly the menu includes a beer pairing suggestion for each dish.

Congratulations to the team at The Salutation, Hulme who have been awarded the Trafford & Hulnme Pub of the Season winter 2020

The Salutation is a real gem of a pub tucked away in Manchester Metropolitain Unvesity Campus. Despite several refurbishments it retains much of its historic interior and has a real community feeling. It hosts regular events inlcuding a quiz night. There is a great range of cask ales and craft beers, largly from Bollington Brewery available. Food is available lunch times and evenenings and the menu includes beer pairing suggestions for each dish.

Well as the nights are strting to draw in, and a few of the leaves start to turn bronze and golden its obviosuly time to present the Autumn Pub Of the season award which went to Dulicmer, Chorlton. For a modest little bar it offersa great range of Ales, with real cider also being available on hand pump. They have frequent music events, and as we visited there were dulcet tones drifting down from the upstairs room. Here we see Chris of Dulcimer accepting the award from the Branch Chairman, George.

Congratulations to the Team at Dulcimer, Chorlton-Cum-Hardt who have been awarded the "Pub Of The Season- Autumn 2019".

Dulcimer is a popular bar in Chorlton-Cum-Hardy which offers drinkers a wide and varied selection of ales, with Blackjack, Siren, Ashover, Hardknott, Wild Beer Weird Beard, Fyne Ales, First Chop & Arbor are typical guests. Cider from a box is served via a handpump on the bar.

As suggested by the name  this is supplemented by a varied selection of live and recorded music and dancing.

For the second year in a row The Old Packet House is our Pub of the Year 2019. Dating back to the 18th century the pub was once the second inn on the journey from Manchester along the Great Bridgewater Canal which runs just behind the pub. Here they are recieving their award from our Chair at the awards presentation evening. Many congratulations to Claire, Roger and the Team.
