Shak - Bar seating copyright ShakChorlton-cum-Hardy now has an incredible 25 pubs & bars serving real ale. The latest addition to the area is The Shak which opened in October on the same part of the Wilbraham Road strip as Mono & The Bar. The Shak is a first venture into the bar world for manager &  co-owner Francesca Duffy who has opened the bar with two sleeping partners having come back to the UK after a period living in Dubai.

The bar has been fitted out in a modern style with the walls a mixture of neutral grey / green and stripped wood cladding and panels. A  giant print of a forest scene adorns the wall to the right of the entrance. The bar is to the rear of the raised area which forms the  left hand side of the bar. Although initially opening with two handpumps, a third was added after the success of ale sale on the opening weekend in October.

The house beer is Thwaites Wainwright. When we called in a week after opening, it was joined by two beers from Green Mill Brewery - their single hop special Stellar and Smokey Joe porter. Local to Francesca's home and one of her favourite breweries, Green Mill are likely to feature regularly on the  guest roster. The back bar features 6 modern keg taps which were featuring beers from Thwaites' Crafty Dan range.

The kitchen is due to open as we write (22nd October). When we spoke to Francesca, the chef was still finalising the details of the menu, but she told us it would be a varied menu featuring a couple of Caribbean themed dishes alongside modern favourites like pulled  pork burgers. There will also be a range of hot and cold snacks for those who just fancy a nibble with their beer.

The bar will be featured on Trafford & Hulme Branch's annual Chorlton Challenge pub crawl which takes place on 14th & 15th November.
