The Trafford & Hulme Camra Winter Pub of the Season is the Bull’s Head in Sale.
Trafford & Hulme Branch’s Pub Of The Season for Autumn is Electrik Bar on Wilbraham Road, Chorlton. The bar was presented with the award on 15 October, just three days after narrowly missing out on the Best Bar award in the Manchester Food & Drink Festival Awards. A healthy contingent of regulars and CAMRA members attended the presentation night with the unexpected bonuses of CAMRA Regional Director Ralph Warrington, local MP John Leech and councillors Norman Lewis (Chorlton Park) & Paul Ankers (Chorlton).
The Steamhouse, Urmston
Come over to Urmston on Thursday 23rd July, when Trafford & Hulme Branch will be presenting their Pub of the Season Award for Summer 2009 to The Steamhouse at Urmston railway station (8 p.m. onwards).
What a transformation! For fifteen years Urmston’s original station building lay derelict after a modern ticket office was built on the opposite line of the line. It was succumbing to the ravages of flood, fire and tempest, not to mention vandalism. To locals it seemed it would soon have to be demolished.
Presentation of the Autumn Pub of the Season Award to the City Arms, Kennedy Street, Manchester
On Thursday 16th October the Trafford & Hulme branch CAMRA presented their Autumn POTS Award to the City Arms on Kennedy Street in Manchester.
This summer’s Pub of the Season award from the Trafford & Hulme Branch took place at the Swan with Two Nicks on 16th July. Sixteen Branch members attended and the presentation to the licensee, Ann Amphlett, was made by Beverley Gobbett, Chair of the Branch. The award was in recognition of the range and quality of the beers, for which the Swan was voted into the current GBG for the first time. During Ann’s 3 year tenure the number of cask ales available has increased from 3 to 7. In particular, the Branch wishes to recognise Ann’s strong support for the nearby, newly-established Dunham Massey Brewery and its brewer John Costello. Typically, 3 of his beers were available on the night: Big Tree, Stamford and the latest Little Bollington Bitter. Ann also supports another local micro-brewery, Coach House of Warrington, who provide the house beer named after the pub. Also permanently available are Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and a stronger beer, often Abbot Ale.
Summer 2008 Pub of the Season is the Swan with Two Nicks –presentation date is Wed 16th July
In case you’ve ever wondered, no, the name of this pub in Little Bollington, Cheshire, doesn’t derive from some anatomical abnormality, but from the ancient practice of putting a nick in each side of the beak of the new seasons’ cygnets to identify them as not being the exclusive property of the Crown.
The Bar - Chorlton
Trafford branch had a great evening recently at the Bar in Chorlton.
The event being the presentation of the Winter Pub of the Season award to Jenny Pearson, the manager (on the right). The beer was on wonderful form, namely Ginger Marble, Manchester Bitter and JP Best from the Marble brewery, Phoenix, Thirsty Moon and Pictish Alchemist Ale, closely followed by Brewers Gold. The branch would like to thank Jenny and her hardworking staff, who kept the beer flowing all night and for the wonderful buffet which was provided for everybody.
