Plans for the demolition of the Pelican are now available for comment on the Trafford Council Web site:-
and we only have until Monday 18th October to submit objections. The following observations by Tim Field our Pub Protection Officer may give you some assistance in phrasing an objection:-
- The heritage statement underplays the value of the existing Pelican Inn building and especially its association with architect George Wescott.
- The site is described as either vacant or a former pub. It's neither, it's an empty existing pub and should be pro-actively marketed as a going concern for at least 12 months.
- There appears to be no statement of community involvement.
Please consider the application and add your own view which will weigh more heavily with the planners.
The Branch Committee encourages you to object, especially if you live close to Pub and would like to see it preserved. In addition, you may wish to contact your local councillors to ask why only two weeks have been allocated to comment on such an important proposal. You can find details of yours here:-
