Lee Gorton, owner of The Jackalope, Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton has posted this on Facebook:
Right folks, slightly bittersweet news here but The Jackalope, as we know it, is closing it’s doors as of midnight on Sunday, June 1st.
It’s been a wonderful ride, we’ve learnt an awful lot along the way and between me, you and the rest of the world, I think I'm fairly close to finding something, somewhere even more exciting.
But for now, it’s has to be about bowing out with good grace and sharing our final week, drinking, singing, dancing and chatting contentedly, amidst the damn fine company we’ve become accustomed too.
I’ve had more incredible nights within these tiny walls than should have ever been possible and that’s the way I want it remembered.
So, from Tuesday night onwards there’ll be a stream of intimate gigs from the closest members of our talented friends and family every night until we, sadly, bid farewell.
Keep an eye out for the events on here but it all climaxes next Saturday with a suitably riotous show from our old comrades, Jim Noir, Badly Drawn Boy, Stazi and the Chips with Everything crew.
The plan then is to soothe our hangovers together on Sunday afternoon for one last hurrah. We’ll host a high spirited record fayre with the greatest dj’s and collectors spinning us into a one off cocktail evening wherein we’ll set about drinking the place dry with no lack of style.
I guess that just leaves a huge thanks to all the fabulous staff, wondrous performers, incredible bands, mind-blowing dj’s and excellent bloody drinkers who have helped us put The Jackalope on the map in Chorlton. Wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s trust, good will and commitment to the cause and that is very much appreciated.
It’s been double the fun in this incarnation than It was in it's London guise and can only pray that it will continue this way into the future... And that you come find us again wherever we end up.
Much love to you all.
