Dunham Massey Brewery Dunham Porter has been crowned the CAMRA Supreme Champion Winter Beer of Britain at the National Winter Ales Festival which this year took place in February in Derby.
The ale is a classic old-style English porter, creamy full bodied and packed with flavour.
Dunham Massey owner John Costello, had this to say on the win:
“We’re made up! We are a relatively new brewery who love making traditional styles like porters, milds and stouts, and I thought our porter would do well but I can’t believe we’ve won overall Champion – I’m over the moon. The CAMRA [Champion Winter Beer of Britain] awards mean everything to us. It’s the highest accolade a dark beer can earn.”
The Britons Protection on Great Bridgewater Street in the City Centre is one of a handful of city centre pubs that is listed on the CAMRA National Inventory of Historic Pubs. In June this year the building will have been there as a pub for 200 years and the current owner will have been there for thirty years. This calls for a big celebration.
Peter Barnett and business partner Markus Stephens together with their Manageress, Gwen Partridge and staff are planning a grand weekend of fun and fund raising on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th of June.
On Wednesday 16th March 2011 CAMRA celebrated it's 40th Birthday.
On the eve of the anniversary, Trafford & Hulme Branch organised a social evening to see in CAMRA's 40th year. Held at one of the branch's best & oldest real ale pubs, The Old Market, Tavern, the evening saw branch members old & new join together to discuss CAMRA's first 40 years and to raise a glass of traditional British ale to CAMRA's successes.
